Urban Survival Tips
In urban survival, you are prepared for any kind of catastrophe that could hit your city unexpectedly and have what it takes to survive. Most people are not prepared but in the world we live in, catastrophes have become the norm and now it is a matter of survival to stay informed on what is really important when everything else changes. Every now and then on the news, there is either a nuclear fallout, major earthquake or volcanic eruption threatening someone’s life and sanity depends on everyone’s ability to cope and adapt to the situation fast.
Some of the most important ways that people can prepare for these kinds of situations is by readying their home for urban survival by stockpiling foodstuff so that they do not starve during the wait. Water purification is also a crucial element that needs to be prioritized along with sanitation systems to keep conditions not only livable but also pleasant. It is a wonderful thing to be prepared for events like these; however, it is not always guaranteed that you will be in or close to the house when disaster strikes.
You need to land on your feet and urban survival needs to kick in so you do not just wander around hoping to run into the Red Cross.
If you have this short list of urban survival tools, you will have a good start.
Hunting knife
Thermal sheet
Headlamp/LED lantern
Iodine tabs
The most important things for you at this time would be basic survival necessities that include clean water, availability of food and a living structure. Due to the sanding of the US in terms of economic status and general advancement, you should be self-sufficient for at least 10 days after which, you should receive help and more supplies.
Survival gear and supplies need to be stored in optimum conditions otherwise a lot of stuff could go to waste and you would not want that. Find a cool and dry place to keep the supplies and ensure they can withstand the elements. Naturally, the basement makes a nice place to keep things but it also has a tendency to get flooded so make sure that does not happen.
Sometimes an outside storage would be ideal for everyone but in case there are too many variables to determine the best hiding spot, then make two spots- one in and one outside of the house just in case. Disasters are unpredictable and unfortunately, no matter how much preparation and drills people go through, it really does not compare to the real thing.
However, remembering the important things will determine how and if you survive the first few days after which, you will have adapted to the situation and hopefully have some military assistance. Things to keep in mind when packing for urban survival:

Whatever the catastrophe is, you should have access to food and water for at least a week before everything cools down. At this time, try to move to a better location if necessary.
